I needed a snack that would cure my hanger and bloat in a tasty way. no more protein bars
Hi, I'm domenique
I'm obsessed with healthy food finds. My favourite pastime is taking long romantic walks around new grocery stores. Exhibit A: this pic of me exploring a mom & pop shop in Italy. I also love a good hike and a good coffee.
I used to be the queeeeen of feeling lethargic and obsessed with food. Tim's coffee in hand 24/7 while thinking about my next meal. I was eating "healthy" too!! As a personal trainer, I'm no stranger to diet culture. I've done it all; low-carb, sugar-free, eating protein bars as a meal, you name it. Every diet left me feeling bloated and lethargic. When I started to eat whole foods with protein, healthy fats and fibre, my energy levels changed and I never looked back.
As I transitioned to a whole-foods based lifestyle, I had a hard time finding portable foods that didn't contain bloat-promoting fillers, like artificial sweeteners and whey protein powders. If I was lucky and found one, it was made with traditional flour and sugar, leaving me hungry within an hour since it had no protein or healthy fats.
I put my engineering problem-solving skills to the test. Enter: The Happy Era.
Filling, portable and bloat-free
How it started
In my third year of engineering, my prof gave us a project: “develop something innovative and sustainable.”
I can’t build things, I can’t wire a circuit, and I just don’t like working on robots. But I do like “building” new things in the kitchen. It was that weird hobby I had as a kid, and I finally had the chance to put it to use.
As a student, I was struggling to stay full on campus all day. I was constantly snacking, feeling up and down, and couldn’t curb my sweet tooth. I tried switching out my waffles and breakfast cookies for protein bars, but they tasted like chalk and started to irritate my stomach.
I used whole foods with a focus on healthy fats, fibre and protein to provide lasting energy. I made it my mission to make my waffles the textbook definition of the opposite of chalk. Whatever that means.
My classmates loved the waffles & my prof encouraged me to turn it into a business. I never looked back! CYA NEVER CALCULUS!
